II DYPALL International Conference – Youth Work at Municipality Level

The II DYPALL International Conference “Youth Work at Municipality Level” was organized by DYPALL Network in cooperation with Cascais EYC2018 from 3rd-6th December in Cascais (European Youth Capital 2018).

The Conference was focusing on the theme of “Creating Sustainable Youth Policies at Local Level” as a follow up of several European guidelines that have been recently established highlighting the importance to mainstream youth policy at the local and regional levels.

The II DYPALL Conference was the flagship event for youth workers, youth leaders, young people and public officers from local and regional authorities that work with youth in their local realities. They came together for four days to share debate and discuss key policy fields to find ways to improve youth work at the municipality level and increase youth participation on policymaking at the local and regional level. The participants had the opportunity to widen their knowledge through several roundtable conversations, workshops and study visits.

During the roundtables, they could have interesting discussions about the following topics: education and political participation; instruments and structures of youth participation; mainstreaming youth policy; capacity building and the importance of multisectional partnerships; the inclusion of NEET; youth employment in low-density territories; and the political participation of young women. The Conference also provided place for workshops about participatory budgeting, local youth action plans, youth-friendly cities and local plans for inclusion and equality.

Furthermore, the participants had the opportunity to give a look at local projects in Cascais. They joined different study visits to see good practices of participation strategy within a municipality and an integrated approach to youth programmes at CRIARTE organization and about outreaching youth as well as youth employment and entrepreneurship programme at TAKE IT! and DNA Cascais.

Thanks to the Conference, participants are more able to find directions to be taken, and to keep improving impact. It provided the place for stakeholders to meet, discuss, reflect, exchange practices and develop their competence to work together on such themes.
