Youth Democracy Academy- International Training for Multipliers The training for multipliers within the Youth Democracy Academy (YDA) project, took place in Portimão (Portugal), from 8th-14th of February 2019, and it involved young people from 12 EU countries that will vote for the first time in the upcoming European elections in May 2019. The participants were given the space to debate topics such as participatory democracy and EU institutions, as well as the tips and strategies on how to promote and develop young voters’ understanding of the democratic process and how it impacts their day – to – day lives. The training provided them with skills on how to act as peer educators and transfer knowledge to their peers, as after the training they will lead local teams implementing a GOTV campaign aimed at first-time voters. On that note, the aim of this part of the Youth Democracy Academy project, was to raise awareness and promote the involvement of first – time voters in the European democratic process, more specifically, in the upcoming European elections. With the goal of empowering and giving young people the tools to operate a campaign led by them, and for their peers, this project has the objective to raise the debate within the young citizens and future decision – making actors, at European level. The participants also had the opportunity to understand different cultural backgrounds and political beliefs, by getting to know their fellow participants trading impression and values, finding common grounds on their sentiment of European citizenship. Youth Democracy Academy is implemented by DYPALL Network in cooperation with National Youth Card Association (Bulgary), Municipality of Karditsa (Greece), Federation of Children’s and Youth Municipal Councils (Hungary), Eurodemos (Italy), Municipality of Rezekne (Latvia), Social Doers (Romania), Asociación Las Niñas del Tul (Spain), Politicus (France), Detská organizácia FÉNIX,o.z (Slovakia), African Empowerement Center (Sweden) and Migrafrica (Germany). This project is Co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union and had the local support from the Municipality of Portimão.
