European Citizenthon: Empowering the citizens of the future

Activity

On 15-16 November, DYPALL Network organised the European Citizenthon in Faro, as part of the Erasmus+ European Future Citizens, a project that promotes active citizenship and a sense of initiative through game design, imagining more sustainable cities across Europe.

Over the course of two days, 30 participants from the five partner countries gathered to participate in different activities. On the first day, they explored the capacity-building programme and played the Urban Game developed within the project, exploring the concepts of sustainability and innovation in city development. The second day was dedicated to co-creating the Manifesto of European Future Citizens, a document reflecting the collective vision of young Europeans. During the event, participants also had the opportunity to connect with the participants of the EJA, the annual gathering of young people from the Algarve.

The manifesto was developed through an inclusive and participatory process, which gathered the aspirations, ideas and practical recommendations of the participating young people, local teams and project partners in the previous phases. It outlines actionable strategies to address contemporary societal challenges, including social inclusion, environmental sustainability, digital transformation and combating misinformation. By amplifying the voices of young people, the manifesto aspires to promote a forward-looking Europe and empower local actors to act on the needs and proposals of future citizens.

On 17 November, the manifesto was presented to stakeholders at the EJA and received strong support, including the signing of a letter of commitment to support its recommendations.

The project is coordinated by FO-Aarhus (Denmark), in cooperation with DYPALL Network, Fundatia Centrul Educational Spektrum (Romania), Consorzio Materhub (Italy), Pot in Pot (Italy) and the Estonian Entrepreneurship University of Applied Sciences (Estonia), co-founded by the European Union.
