“Climbing the Ladder: fostering a culture of Youth Engagement (CL-YE)” Study visit to Brussels, Belgium

The third and final Study visit of the project “Climbing the Ladder: Fostering a Culture of Youth Engagement CL-YE”’ took place from 2nd-6th December 2024 in Brussels, Belgium, hoste by the Assembly of European Regions (AER). This evebt brought together representatives of the project consortium to connect with Europe’s key institutions, delving into how youth perspectives are integrated into decision-making processes at regional and European level.

Participants attended the EAR Autumn Bureau at the European Parliament, observing the decision-making processes that are shaping European regions. At the Council of Europe Liaison Office, policy advisor Aleksandra Celar shared information on efforts to promote youth participation in democratic processes. Participants explored Erasmus+ funding opportunities with the European Education and Culture Executive Agency, learning about support for youth engagement initiatives across Europe. The meeting with Susannah Hallgren from the EESC Ad Hoc Group on Youth highlighted the successes and challenges in integrating youth perspectives into EU consultative processes.

They also had the opportunity to meet representatives from the European Youth Forum and Conseil de la Jeunesse Belgique (Belgian Youth Council of the French-speaking community), to explore how youth voices shape governance and advocacy.

The visit to Brussels marked an important step of the CL-YE project, following previous visits to Bratislava and Vienna. Participants reflected on lessons learnt and emphasised the importance of cross-border collaboration to amplify young people’s voices in governance.

Climbing the Ladder: fostering a culture of Youth Engagement (CL-YE) is led by DYPALL Network in partnership with Europiamo (Italy), Nordland fylkeskommune (Norway), EDYN (Slovakia), YEPP Europe (Germany), Assemblée des Régions d’Europe – AER (France), and SQ Learn (Greece), under the Erasmus+ Programme.
