From the 5th to the 9th of October 2017, DYPALL attended this year’s edition of the ‘Let’s Participate’ Seminar, implemented by IMAGINA – Servicio de Juventud, Infancia y Adolescencia del Ayuntamiento de Alcobendas, Madrid (Spain).

This international event gathered representatives from Municipalities and Civil Society Organisations aiming at sharing good practices, enhancing skills and establishing partnerships in the context of the work developed across Europe to foster youth participation in social and political decision-making processes at local level. It counted on 16 participants coming from Albania, Austria, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, Netherlands Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden and Turkey.

The programme included group reflections, a meeting with a local government representative, guided visits to relevant institutions working on the inclusion of youth, field research in local projects in Alcobendas and Madrid and the elaboration of a common strategy for projects in this particular topic of youth participation.

Early in the programme participants had the opportunity to gather with the representative from the Participation Department of the Municipality of Alcobendas, Mr. Marcos Herrera, and to become acquainted about methodology followed by the local government to ensure citizens engagement, and in particular youth engagement, in the development of the community. At this moment was also approached the particular collaboration established between the Municipality of Alcobendas and IMAGINA.

In the context of this event, DYPALL presented it’s research project to be launch in the last trimester of 2017 and to be developed in close collaboration with the European Youth Forum, and that will map the existing models, mechanisms, projects and initiatives through which youth are invited to participate and become effectively involved in the decision-making processes at the local level.

This was also a moment for DYPALL and IMAGINA to align strategies, with several potential partnerships to be established in the coming months. Among these is the possibility for renewed editions of this activity.
